Oaks Christian Rolls Past Rio Mesa, 39-12, in Varsity Flag Football
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — Oaks Christian girls varsity flag football delivered one of its strongest offensive performances of the early season, defeating Rio Mesa 39-12 on Aug. 19 in a CIF Southern Section matchup.
The Lions took control almost immediately and never allowed Rio Mesa to settle into the game. Oaks Christian combined an aggressive offense with a disruptive defensive performance, building a commanding 27-0 advantage by halftime.
Quarterback Brianna Malyszek helped direct the Oaks Christian offense and contributed a touchdown as the Lions consistently found ways to move the ball. With multiple players involved in the scoring, Rio Mesa struggled to focus its defense on any single threat.
Oaks Christian received touchdowns from Lillee Maine, Audrey Simic, Savanah Williams, Reese Smith, Stella Jordan and Malyszek, highlighting the depth of an offense that produced a season-high 39 points.
The Lions were equally effective on the other side of the ball. Oaks Christian intercepted Rio Mesa three times, repeatedly stopping the Spartans from building sustained offensive momentum.
Mya Redeaux, Addilyn Bernd and Gemma Chababi each recorded an interception for the Lions. Those takeaways helped give Oaks Christian favorable field position and kept Rio Mesa scoreless throughout the opening half.
Rio Mesa eventually found more success after halftime and scored 12 points, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome. Oaks Christian remained in control and prevented the Spartans from turning their second-half scores into a serious comeback attempt.
The 39-12 victory marked Oaks Christian’s second consecutive win at the time and improved the Lions to 3-2. More importantly, the performance showed the potential of a balanced roster capable of producing plays on both offense and defense.
For Oaks Christian, the victory was defined by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players found the end zone while three different defenders recorded interceptions, allowing the Lions to control the game in all phases.
With the season still in its early stages, the win over Rio Mesa provided another glimpse of what Oaks Christian can produce when its offense and defense are working together.
