Camarillo’s Season Ends With First-Round Playoff Loss to Warren

CAMARILLO, Calif. — Camarillo boys basketball’s CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoff run ended Wednesday night at Camarillo High, as the Scorpions fell to Warren 66-44 in a first-round matchup.

The Scorpions entered the postseason with a chance to extend their season on their home floor, but Warren quickly showed why it would be a difficult matchup. The Bears played with control on both ends of the court, using defensive pressure and balanced scoring to build momentum and keep Camarillo from finding a steady rhythm.

Camarillo senior Jaden Whitehead was one of the players who continued to battle through the pressure. Whitehead attacked the basket, looked for space on the perimeter and took contested shots as Warren’s defense stayed tight throughout the game.

The Scorpions had moments where they were able to create good looks, but Warren’s defense made most possessions difficult. Camarillo had to work deep into the shot clock and often faced pressure before it could get into its offense. When the Scorpions did get stops, Warren responded by limiting second chances and turning defensive rebounds into transition opportunities.

Warren’s ability to answer Camarillo’s runs became one of the key differences in the game. Each time the Scorpions tried to cut into the deficit, the Bears found a way to respond, either with a basket inside, a defensive stop or a quick possession that slowed Camarillo’s momentum.

By the second half, Warren had created enough separation to control the pace. Camarillo continued to compete, but the Scorpions were forced to play from behind against a team that did not give away many easy possessions.

The loss ended Camarillo’s season in the opening round of the Division 3 playoffs. For the Scorpions, it was a tough finish after earning a postseason spot and hosting a playoff game in front of their home crowd.

Even with the final score, Camarillo’s effort did not fade. The Scorpions continued to fight through the final minutes, with their seniors closing the year in one last playoff appearance at home.

Warren advanced to the second round, while Camarillo walked off its home court with its season over after a difficult first-round matchup.

For Camarillo, the result was not the ending the team wanted, but the playoff appearance still reflected a season that brought the Scorpions back onto the CIF-SS stage. The loss closed the year, but it also gave the program another postseason experience to build from.
