After a scoreless first half, San Diego opened the scoring in the 49th minute when Dudinha found the back of the net to give the Wave a 1-0 lead. Angel City responded quickly, with defender Emily Sams scoring in the 54th minute to bring the match level at 1-1.

The equalizer gave Angel City momentum, but San Diego continued to create chances in transition. The match remained tied until the 81st minute, when Dudinha sent a ball across the front of goal and Van Zanten headed in the game-winner at the right post. For San Diego, the win showed composure on the road. The Wave took advantage of key moments in the second half and found a late answer after Angel City had worked back into the game. Dudinha played a major role in both goals, scoring the opener and assisting the winner.

For Angel City, the result was another narrow loss in a difficult stretch. The club stayed in the match and answered quickly after falling behind, but could not find a second goal before San Diego regained the lead late. Saturday’s match was Angel City’s fifth consecutive contest decided by one goal.
